Eagles leaders suing Korean company over music in TV commercial
Don Henley and Glenn Frey are suing a Korean insurance company and its agents for using an Eagles song in an advertisement without permission. They've filed suit in Central District Court in Seoul against the Korea Life Insurance Company, Han Communications, and Lime Light Music Consulting, because "Desperado" was placed as the background music in a TV commercial. According to the paperwork, Lime Light was supposed to broker a deal with Frey and Henley to include "Desperado" in the spot, but when the sides couldn't agree on a price, Lime Light went ahead and used the song without approval. The commercial aired throughout Korea for a number of months beginning last May, and the companies seemingly ignored a cease and desist letter they were sent in early September.
Henley and Frey are seeking an immediate payment of 500 million Korean Won, or a little more than $534,000, as well as attorney's fees. They also plan to ask for more once the total amount of damages has been determined.
The Eagles hope to release a new album this year, but no firm date has been announced.
