Garbage not officially over
Garbage has not officially disbanded, despite being on hiatus for over a year. Drummer Butch Vig told AOL Music, "There was never any talk of an official breakup or anything, but I think after four records in 10 years and four long tours, everybody needed to do some serious decompression." The group, which began its break in the fall of 2005, will perform at a January 31st benefit in Glendale, California for drummer Wally Ingram, who has throat cancer. Other artists slated to appear include Bonnie Raitt, Keb' Mo' and members of the Pixies.
Vig himself put the benefit together to raise money for Ingram, who has played with Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Jackson Browne and others.
Vig said Garbage will probably play three or four songs at the event, possibly with a string quartet. He's also hoping for some unexpected jams, explaining, "Maybe (Raitt) can play over something like 'Queer,' a Garbage track, and just play some cool, wicked razor-blade guitar."
A Garbage "best-of" compilation called Absolute Garbage is slated to arrive on March 20th, 2007.
Garbage singer Shirley Manson is currently working on her debut solo album, also due out sometime this year.
