Garbage recording new songs for new hits collection
Garbage drummer Butch Vig told MTV.com yesterday (Thursday, January 18th) that the band is going to record a couple of new songs at the end of February for inclusion on its upcoming greatest hits collection. Vig said, "I think everyone's excited about getting back in a room and playing some music together." Although the compilation was initially slated to come out in March, it will now appear later in the year. Vig added that another album of B-sides and remixes might surface at some point as well, explaining, "We have a lot of B-sides and remixes over the years, so it would be cool to see that come out in a proper package for our hardcore fans."
The group will also perform for the first time in more than a year at a January 31st benefit in Glendale, California for drummer Wally Ingram, who has throat cancer. Other artists slated to appear include Bonnie Raitt, Keb' Mo' and members of the Pixies.
Vig, a good friend of Ingram's and a driving force behind the benefit, explained, "The doctors have given him a pretty good prognosis but, like a lot of musicians and (a) lot of people in this country, he doesn't have adequate health care. So I took it upon myself to rally all his friends."
Garbage will perform with a string quartet at the event.
Garbage singer Shirley Manson is currently working on her debut solo album, also due out sometime this year.
