Gary Glitter could be eligible for early parole from prison in Vietnam
Gary Glitter could have his prison sentence reduced for good behavior. Last March, Glitter was convicted in Vietnam of committing "obscene acts" with two girls, aged 10 and 11, and was given a three-year prison sentence. Officials are now deciding whether Glitter should get early release, based on his good behavior in jail and the near-unanimous recommendations of his fellow inmates, according to the Associated Press.
Vietnam is known to reduce the sentences of some prisoners as part of the annual Lunar New Year celebrations, which take place next month, and most who are eligible for early release get it. If everything lines up for him, Glitter could be out by May.
Glitter's rap sheet also includes a British conviction in 1999 for possession of child pornography, for which he served two months of a four month sentence before being released. He eventually made his way to Cambodia, where the government kicked him out of the country in 2002, though he was never charged with anything, and he wound up in Vietnam.
