Grace Slick set for art exhibits around Washington D.C.
Grace Slick will be in and around Washington, D.C., over the next couple of days, as her artwork will be on display at a few galleries. The former Jefferson Airplane and Starship singer has been painting for about 20 years, and her work has been exhibited several times since her first show back in 2000. Slick will be at Wentworth Pentagon City in Arlington, Virginia, today ( January 11th) from 6 to 9 p.m.; at Wentworth White Flint in North Bethesda, Maryland, tomorrow (Friday, January 12th) from 6 to 9 p.m.; and at Wentworth Tysons Galleria in McLean, Virginia, on Saturday (January 13th) from 6 to 9 p.m., and again Sunday (January 14th) from 2 to 4 p.m.
While she's at the galleries, Slick doesn't have any plans to belt out a song or two. She's 67 years old now, and she told us that as far as she's concerned, rock-and-roll is for younger folks: "I don't like old people on a rock-and-roll stage. I think they look kinda sappy. I think you can play jazz forever, rhythm & blues forever, opera forever, but rock-and-roll is a young person's medium. Now, if other people want to do it -- if the older rockers feel comfortable, and people want to show up, fine. It's just that I don't feel comfortable doing it."
