Hot Topic not carrying Fall Out Boy album
Fall Out Boy's new album, Infinity On High, will not be carried at Hot Topic stores around the country, according to Punkbands.com. This prevents the record from potentially reaching untold numbers of teenage fans who shop regularly at the teen fashion and music emporiums. Although Hot Topic was originally slated to hold listening parties for the CD shortly before its February 6th release date, those plans have also been scrapped. Apparently a dispute with the band's label, Island Def Jam, is to blame, although no specific details were revealed.
Bassist Pete Wentz said in a statement, "We are very upset about this. Hot Topic has been our partner since (first album) Take This To Your Grave. We support our friends at Hot Topic and their decision to not stock the record for the time being, even though this is a very disappointing situation for us and our fans who shop at Hot Topic."
Wentz added that the chain will still carry other Fall Out Boy merchandise and that he hopes the issue gets resolved soon. He concluded by saying that although it's out of the group's hands, they are doing everything they can to "rectify the situation."
The Hot Topic standoff only adds to tensions that arose when the album was leaked online two weeks ago. Wentz called the leak "the worst...in the history of music" and the label hurriedly announced plans to offer a live EP to anyone who purchases the physical CD. The leak came during a drastic overall plunge in music sales during the past month.
