Huge Beatles memorabilia auction set for Monday
One of the largest Beatles memorabilia auctions is scheduled for Monday (January 15th), via the Cooper Owen auction house in Scottsdale, Arizona.The Liverpool Echo reported that among the hundreds of one-of-a-kind rock and roll items to be sold off include such Beatles rarities as:
George Harrison's original handwritten lyrics to the group's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," featuring the long-missing final verse, which was finally released on The Beatles Anthology 3. On the other side of the lyric sheet is the Beatles' road manager Mal Evans' handwritten lyrics to "Hey Jude." The Harrison lyrics are expected to fetch up to $800,000.
Beatles' producer George Martin's newly composed five page musical score for the latest version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," which was overdubbed onto an early acoustic take of the song and is now featured in The Beatles LOVE soundtrack album. The score is signed by Martin, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono, and Harrison's widow Olivia Harrison.
A 1917 Brambach baby grand piano that John Lennon and Yoko Ono owned and kept at their Long Island estate in Cold Spring Harbor in the late '70s. The piano is believed to have been used during Lennon's composition of some of his final songs, such as "Woman" and "(Just Like) Starting Over."
The earliest known signatures of John Lennon and Paul McCartney together, in a Liverpool guest book dated December 22nd, 1958. Also included is the signature of Lennon's future wife Cynthia Powell, on a separate page.
A watercolor painting by Lennon of a bird in a tree, from when he was 11 years old. The painting, which was signed and dated in June 1952, is believed to be the earliest known signature by Lennon.
A handwritten letter from Lennon in 1973 to his soon-to-be former backup band Elephants Memory.
An autographed copy of Lennon's 1974 Walls And Bridges album, with the inscription: "To Bernie, keep your pants on. John Lennon."
