John Mellencamp had a vision for new album "Freedom's Road"

John Mellencamp is happy with how his new record, which is called Freedom's Road, turned out. Mellencamp is releasing the album on Tuesday, January 23rd, and he told us that he always knew how he wanted it to sound: "We pretty much (cough) had a idea what the record was gonna sound like before we even started. We knew that we were going to use those type of echoes, we knew what the songs were gonna be -- we had, like, 50 songs we were working on. We rounded up all those old amps, we rounded up all those old guitars, we knew that Little Big Town was gonna do the background vocals. You know, I knew a lot of things about the record, and we just kind of had a vision and just stayed connected to it."

There's no word yet on whether Mellencamp and his band will tour behind the album.
