The New Cars looking to record new material this year
The New Cars are on hiatus right now, but are planning to record in the future. Bassist Kasim Sulton, who filled out the group with singer-guitarist Todd Rundgren, drummer Prairie Prince, and original Cars guitarist Elliot Easton and keyboardist Greg Hawkes, told us that the group wants to expand on the four new songs that were included on the It's Alive album last year: "We had always talked about, 'You know, we can't just go out just on the strength of the old material, because we wind up just being a cover band.' So that was always part of the plan, was to do a record with new material on it. And I think that now that we've done the two tours, and also that live record, maybe this year will see the band kind of working on a specifically new material record."
It's Alive included the band's first single, "Not Tonight."
The first set of New Cars dates were cut short when Easton broke his collarbone in a fall on their tour bus last June.
Sulton isn't just waiting around for the New Cars to get together. He's been Meat Loaf's musical director for may years, and they've got a tour starting February 23rd in Pala, California.
