Next Incubus videop to be directed by fan
Incubus recently offered fans a chance to direct the video for the band's new single, "Dig," through a contest that ended yesterday (Monday, January 15th) at IDigIncubus.com. The winning selection will become the official clip for the single and be serviced to video and online outlets around the world. Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger told us that web sites like YouTube have allowed more freedom and creativity in the video world: "MTV just plays reality shows. It's definitely not what it used to be. That's actually really cool, though, because it's opened up totally different channels for bands to make videos and get their music out there to people, you know, and web sites like YouTube have really kind of opened up a lot of channels. Any kid anywhere can make some type of art film or some type of animated film or whatever. It's a really great vehicle for people."
Incubus provided raw live footage of the band performing "Dig" for use in the video, although contestants were not required to even feature the band in their clips.
Incubus began a North American tour last week in support of its recently released sixth album, Light Grenades. The group plays tomorrow night (Wednesday, January 17th) in Dallas, Texas. The tour closes out on February 11th in Los Angeles.
Incubus has also been confirmed as one of the headliners for the Desert Rock 2007 festival, scheduled to take place on March 9th and 10th at the Dubai Country Club in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. Also appearing at the event will be Stone Sour, Mastodon, the Prodigy, In Flames and Iron Maiden.
Light Grenades was the first Incubus album to debut at Number One on the Billboard Top 200 album chart when it came out in November.
