Perry Farrell launching Satellite Party in May
Ex-Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell will release the debut album from his new project, the Satellite Party, on May 15th. Titled Ultra Payloaded, the disc will feature guest appearances from Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and guitarist John Frusciante, New Order/Joy Division bassist Peter Hook, Porno For Pyros guitarist Peter DiStefano, Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie, a 30-piece orchestra and others. The band itself features former Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt. What's believed to be the last recording ever made of Doors frontman Jim Morrison's voice is heard on a track called "Woman In The Window," which features Morrison reciting poetry over music written by Farrell.
The first single from Ultra Payloaded is called "Wish Upon A Dog Star."
Farrell also sees the Satellite Party as the launching pad for a musical movement dedicated to changing the world, which he calls the Solutionists.
The band is working with several groups to stop or slow global warming, while Farrell himself has worked to preserve rainforests and help refugees in Sudan.
The Satellite Party will make its live debut on January 25th at the 2007 ESPN Winter X-Games in Aspen, Colorado, with more concert dates coming soon.
