The Police respong to reunion rumours
There might be a Police reunion this year, but there are no guarantees. That's the word from singer-bassist Sting, guitarist Andy Summers, and drummer Stewart Copeland, ever since rumors began circulating that the band would play shows this year to mark their 30th anniversary. A message on the group's behalf from their label was posted on the official sting.com website, and it reads: "As the 30th anniversary of the first Police single approaches, discussions have been underway as to how this will be commemorated. While we can confirm that there will indeed be something special done to mark the occasion, the depth of the band's involvement still remains undetermined."Copeland and Summers have said repeatedly that they're willing to do it, but that it's up to Sting whether it happens. If they play together, it will be interesting to find out why Sting changed his mind, since he told us a few years ago that he couldn't see any reason to get back together: "It's a sort of perennial offer, but it's all based on nostalgia and somebody's wanting to make a buck, you know? I mean, there's nothing real about it. I mean, you can't recreate the Police. That was of a time, you know -- you just simply can't recreate it. You can only fail. And I'm not sure why you'd want to do it."
Published reports says there could be shows this summer in the U.K., and that the news could be revealed this month.
