Sammy Hagar "humbled" by Van Halen's election to Rock Hall

Sammy Hagar has never been the shy, retiring type, but the official announcement that he'd been elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Van Halen knocked him back on his heels. Hagar's been staying and playing at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Mexico since the holidays, but when he got the official word on January 8th, he was humbled. He called in from Cabo San Lucas to share his feelings with us: "This is such an honor. You know, I've got a Grammy, I've got an American Music Award, I've got, you know, three MTV Video (Music) Awards, and, you know, all the Number One records in the world, and, you know, 60 million-plus records on my wall, gold and platinum albums on my wall. And this is the last one. This is the honor that says, 'AND you deserved it,' you know? I love it."

The "Red Rocker" is planning to attend the ceremony on March 12th at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, where he'll be inducted alongside guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen, former bassist Michael Anthony, and original lead singer David Lee Roth, who is rumored to be back with the group for a summer tour. There's been no word yet on whether they will all perform together.

The rest of the Class Of 2007 includes R.E.M., Patti Smith, early rappers Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, and the girl group the Ronettes.
