Scott Weiland open to playing with Stone Temple Pilots again?

Velvet Revolver vocalist Scott Weiland is apparently not opposed to reuniting one day with his former band, Stone Temple Pilots, according to a new interview conducted with the singer at his MySpace page. When asked if he could ever see STP getting back together, Weiland replied, "Every shelf needs two bookends," but declined to elaborate further. Weiland shot to success with STP in the early Nineties but his constant drug arrests slowed the group down later in the decade. He recorded five albums with the band, ending with 2001's Shangri-La-Dee-Da.

Stone Temple Pilots were a success right away with their 1992 debut album, Core, but were never liked by rock critics. Weiland told us that the group eventually overcame that: "We were a favorite band of music fans, rock fans everywhere, but we were definitely not a favorite band of rock critics. It took us hard work and always changing -- you know, I think because of the fact that we always evolved and always made different records all the time is, like, the reason why our relationship with rock critics changed. We ended up becoming a band that critics appreciated."

Former STP guitarist Dean DeLeo and bassist Robert DeLeo are now in Army Of Anyone.

Weiland and Velvet Revolver are currently recording their second album, tentatively titled Libertad, with a release planned for late spring.

Weiland is also working on his second solo album, which he hopes will surface in the fall of 2007 or early in 2008 on his own label, Softdrive Records.
