Snow Patrol drummer breaks arm
Snow Patrol drummer Jonny Quinn has broken his arm in a snowboarding accident, forcing the band to enlist a replacement for its upcoming shows. According to NME, Quinn injured himself while snowboarding in the French Alps and will be temporarily replaced by longtime Snow Patrol friend Graham Hopkins, formerly the drummer in British cult band Therapy. It is not known whether Quinn will recover in time to rejoin Snow Patrol on its upcoming North American trek, which begins on February 26th in Portland, Oregon.
Quinn's injury is the latest in a series of mishaps that have plagued the group. Singer Gary Lightbody lost his voice at one point last year, causing the band to scrap a series of U.S. shows, while bassist Paul Wilson suffered an arm injury later in 2006 that led to the cancellation of several European dates.
Snow Patrol's latest album, Eyes Open, has been certified gold in the U.S. for sales of more than half a million copies.
The massive hit single from Eyes Open, "Chasing Cars," is nominated for a Grammy this year for Best Rock Song. The band is also up for a number of Brit Awards, the U.K. equivalent to the Grammys.
