UK festival that launched Radiohead and Coldplay expanding to the US
An influential British music festival that helped launch the careers of bands such as Coldplay, Radiohead, Muse and Arctic Monkeys is expanding into the U.S. According to NME, the In The City convention will make its first foray into the States with a two-day event in New York City on June 13th and 14th. The main live showcases will be held at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square, and each will feature an established British act, an up-and-coming U.K. group promoting its debut album and an unsigned outfit.
American bands will perform at additional venues around the city as part of the event.
In The City originated in Manchester, England and was founded by former Factory Records owner Tony Wilson, who started the event as an answer to the Austin, Texas festival South by Southwest.
