Anna Nicole Smith's lovers coming out of the woodwork
The frenzy following Anna Nicole Smith's death kicked up another couple of notches with ex-lovers coming out of the woodwork, Smith's mother saying she fears for her granddaughter's life, and a Bahamian official under fire for being too cozy with the deceased centerfold.
Howard K. Stern, Larry Birkhead, and Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband Prince Frederic Von Anhalt have all laid claim to Smith's baby Dannielynn. Von Anhalt said yesterday (February 12th) that he plans to file a paternity lawsuit this week to get custody of the five-month old but he's stopped short of claiming he was the baby's daddy. Von Anhalt also said in a press conference that at least 20 different men could be the child's father: "At that time, you know, when she was in Los Angeles, it could be 20 different men could claim the child so...I don't want to get into that but when it comes to a ruling from the court, it would be against the child if either Larry Birkhead or Howard Stern gets the child. That would be very wrong because they are not the fathers."
Smith's mother Virgie Arthur doesn't think Stern's the father either. She told Good Morning America yesterday (February 12th) she doesn't even want her granddaughter near the attorney: "I don't think he's the father. I think that Larry Birkhead is the father. And I don't have a problem with her being with Larry Birkhead, I do have a problem with her being with Howard Stern. I had a daughter and I had a grandson and he was there when both of them died, he was there. Now, I only have a granddaughter left and now he has her and I'm afraid for her."
In the Bahamas, the biggest Smith-related news involves Immigration Minister Shane Gibson. Politicians are calling for his resignation after photos of him cozying up with Smith were published in Monday's issue of the Tribune of Nassau. The pictures were taken in Smith's bedroom and show the pair in tight, fully-clothed embraces on her bed. Gibson is responsible for fast-tracking and approving Smith's application to reside on the islands, and the photos reinforce the opinion that he gave her preferential treatment.
In other Smith news:
Her physical trainer, Alex Denk, says he had an affair with her for the past five years, but doesn't think he's the dad.
Howard K. Stern is convinced that the pictures that made headlines in the Bahamas yesterday were taken from the computer that was stolen from Smith's Bahamas home. The owner of the house, G. Ben Thompson, changed the locks on the estate when Smith died and several items were missing after that. Stern changed them again when he got back to the islands.
Smith's diet supplement sponsor TrimSpa was not happy when photos of her refrigerator showed she was taking SlimFast to keep her weight down instead of the product she was endorsing. A company spokesperson said it was a breach of Smith's contract to consume another product. In the wake of its spokeperson's death, TrimSpa also revealed it would change its ad campaign to feature "ordinary people" instead of Smith.
