Art Garfunkel says singing is ageless
Art Garfunkel is back with a new solo album of standards, called Some Enchanted Evening. Garfunkel, who is now on a promotional tour in the UK, told Britain's The Telegraph that he's used to going against the grain artistically, explaining that, "I don't fit in. That's the story of my career. And I like to not fit in."
He added that regardless of whose songs he's sung, or the genre that they've fallen under, there's always been a sense of timelessness in his music: "Working as a musician, there is no age. When you open your mouth and it's music time, everything to do with aging falls away. To chase after the beauty of a vocal line is an ageless thing, and I've been doing it all my life. Nothing has changed: I'm still a kid with a sense of beauty, trying to get it across."
Garfunkel told us that there are very few things he dislikes about being on tour: "Except one kind of show. If they call me in advance and say, 'Attendance is terrible. Nobody's coming' -- but you've got to do the show. I don't look forward to those shows so much. Those are 'work' nights."
Art Garfunkel will kick off his next series U.S. of dates on March 1st in Columbus, Georgia at the River Center Performing Arts.
