Britney Spears in Los Angeles rehab facility
Britney Spears checked herself into a Los Angeles rehab facility on Tuesday, February 20th, just days after making headlines for shaving her head. According to TMZ.com, the decision came after family members, including her mother, urged her to get some help. Spears' manager released a statement saying, "Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into an undisclosed rehab facility today. We ask that the media respect her privacy as well as those of her family and friends at this time."
Spears entered a rehab clinic in Antigua last week but checked out less than 24 hours later.
The 25-year-old singer was spotted over the weekend at a couple of L.A. clubs sporting a blonde wig. On Sunday (February 18th), she had dinner with her father. According to the New York Daily News, she went out later that night and ended up crashing a stranger's private karaoke party, where she reportedly spent most of the time sitting alone in a booth. A friend came by around 1:00 a.m. and they left shortly after someone started singing a karaoke version of Spears' hit song, "Baby One More Time," not realizing that the singer was in the building.
Meanwhile, the owners of the Los Angeles-area salon where Spears chopped off her hair launched BuyBritneysHair.com and are taking offers of $1 million or more. The package would include Spears' hair extensions, the Omega clipper, the Red Bull she drank at the salon and her cigarette lighter. Part of the profits will go to charity.
According to TMZ.com, Esther Tognozzi, owner of the Tarzana, California salon, told a Los Angeles radio station that she had closed the blinds after Spears' meltdown so the paparazzi couldn't snag any shots. When asked if bodyguards had opened the blinds, she said, "I think so."
