Creedence Clearwater Revival reunion this year?
We've already got the Police and Van Halen doing reunion tours this year, but will that list also include Creedence Clearwater Revival? Singer-guitarist John Fogerty is confirmed for the Glastonbury festival in England on June 23rd, and Britain's Uncut magazine says it could be a CCR show with bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug "Cosmo" Clifford. The idea stems from Glastonbury organizer Michael Eavis, who said last year that the 2007 lineup would include an act that "officially gave up touring in 1972, a band that were once the biggest band in the world. A band that no one would expect."
After racking up 13 Top 10 singles and five Top 10 albums between 1968 and 1971, Creedence broke up in late 1972. Since then, Fogerty has battled his former bandmates in the press over their contributions to Creedence's music, and he took them to court in an unsuccessful attempt to keep them from working as Creedence Clearwater Revisited. He also refused to perform with them with they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1994.
Last year, Fogerty told us that he still had no interest in working with his former bandmates, though he had softened a little bit in his feelings about their time together: "I think the most you'll see from me is probably speaking of good times from Creedence days in perhaps a more cherished manner, because there certainly were good times leading up to the great success that we had."
Neither Fogerty nor his label have commented on the Uncut report. A representative for Clifford and Cook was unavailable for comment, though it should be noted that they're booked to play in Regina, Saskatchewan, on June 23rd, the same day the Glastonbury appearance is supposed to happen.
The fourth member of Creedence Clearwater Revival was John's brother Tom Fogerty. He died in 1990.
