The Doors get Hollywood Walk Of Fame star
The Doors were honored on Wednesday, February 28th with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Guitarist Robby Krieger and keyboardist Ray Manzarek were in front of the Virgin Megastore on Hollywood Boulevard for the ceremony, which began at 11:30 a.m. PT. They were be joined by guests including Jac Holzman, the Elektra Records founder who signed the band and worked closely with them in the studio. All Doors fans are invited to attend the unveiling of the star. It's not yet clear why drummer John Densmore didn't make it to the event.
Manzarek hopes people will use this opportunity to look at the whole band and not just Jim Morrison. He told us he has a bit of a problem with those who only focus on the late frontman: "You know, it's a worship of Morrison -- I understand that. You know, he's dead. It's like James Dean, you know -- except James Dean stood alone, so you could worship James Dean. But, I mean, Jim was part of a band. The band was called the Doors. Listen to the music, man. The people who worship Jim Morrison so insanely, I don't even think they know the words, you know? It's just the image of Jim."
