Fall Out Boy climbs high on Billboard chart
Fall Out Boy's new album, Infinity On High, debuted at Number One on the Billboard 200 album chart yesterday (Wednesday, February 14th), with first-week sales of 260,000 copies. Although some industry insiders predicted sales of 400,000 or more, it was still enough to land the group in the top spot for the first time. Its previous effort, 2005's From Under The Cork Tree, peaked at Number Nine.
Infinity On High leaked onto the web two weeks before its February 6th release date, prompting panic at the band's record label and musings from bassist Pete Wentz that the slip could be "the worst in the history of music."
The week's other major rock debut this week came from the U.K.'s Bloc Party, whose sophomore CD, Weekend in the City, arrived at Number 12 with 48,000 copies sold. The group's 2005 debut, Silent Alarm, never climbed higher than Number 114.
A new live package from the Used, called Berth, moved 13,000 copies to enter the chart at Number 71.
