Foo Fighters in early stages of new album

Foo Fighters are in the early stages of work on the band's next album. Drummer Taylor Hawkins confirmed to MTV that the group is "just demoing and stuff right now," and did not give any indication of when the Foos would begin recording or when he expected the record to be released. The band's sixth studio effort will follow up 2005's half-electric, half-acoustic double CD, In Your Honor.

Meanwhile, Hawkins is mystified about why Prince included an excerpt of the Foo Fighters song "Best Of You" during his Super Bowl halftime performance on February 4th. Hawkins said, "Dude, I have no idea why he did it, but I'd love to find out...Either way, it was pretty amazing to have a guy like Prince covering one of our songs -- and actually doing it better than we did."

Foo Fighters covered Prince's "Darling Nikki" for a Australian B-side a couple of years ago. Although the song got some airplay in the U.S., Prince reportedly was not pleased with it and refused to let the Foos release it here.
