Jimi Hendrix estate denies connection to vodka brand
The Jimi Hendrix estate is denying any connection to a new Hendrix-branded vodka. The makers of Hendrix Electric vodka claim they have a license to use the late guitarist's image and name on the bottles, but Experience Hendrix LLC, the company set up by Jimi's father Al, says it's not true. Jimi's half-sister Janie Hendrix, the CEO of Experience Hendrix, said, "We are concerned that there is a perception that we have, in some way, sanctioned this and would like it known that we have neither issued a license, nor do we endorse the use of my brother's likeness and name in this manner." Janie added, "As a matter of strict policy, we would certainly never participate in promoting an alcoholic beverage. We regret that there are some who don't have the facts straight in this matter and have erroneously concluded that Experience Hendrix has played some role in the promotion of this product."
The makers of Hendrix Electric suggest that people enjoy their "ultra-premium spirit" in drink recipes titled "Electric Hendrix," "Purple Haze," "Voodoo," and "Foxy Lady."
