Oasis guitarist to U2's Bono: Shut up about Africa
Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher said that U2 frontman Bono should "shut the fuck up about Africa," according to NME. Gallagher lashed out at artists who focus on political issues and singled out the activist Irish singer for his efforts to end poverty, disease and famine on the often war-torn continent. Gallagher also singled out Radiohead's Thom Yorke for the same reason, saying, "Who wants to sing the news? No matter how much you sit there twiddling, going, 'We're all doomed,' at the end of the day people will always want to hear you play 'Creep.' Get over it."
Oasis will be honored for Outstanding Contribution next month at the 2007 Brit Awards, the U.K. equivalent to the Grammys.
When asked whether his band was still relevant, Gallagher said, "We had two number ones last year (on the British charts), we're punching our weight with young kids, we still look good."
Oasis and U2 both released hits collections last November.
