Peter Frampton to perform & serve as grand marshal at NASCAR race in June
Peter Frampton's got a special gig booked for June 16th in Sparta, Kentucky. That day, he and his band will perform at Kentucky Speedway, and once they're done, Frampton will serve as the grand marshal for that day's Meijer 300 race, which is part of the NASCAR circuit. Frampton said, "The opportunity to be race grand marshal is something truly thrilling. To be involved in such a tremendous racing event so close to home is definitely an honor. I've always wanted to say, 'Gentlemen, start your engines!'" Frampton lives in the Cincinnati area, which is less than an hour from the track.
The race will be televised on ESPN2, and Frampton's command to the drivers should be part of the telecast.
Frampton is up for two Grammy Awards -- Best Pop Instrumental Album category for Fingerprints, and Best Rock Instrumental Performance for his version of the Soundgarden hit "Black Hole Sun." The Grammy ceremony takes place Sunday (February 11th) in Los Angeles.
