The Police working hard to get ready for reunion tour

The Police are hard at work, getting themselves in musical shape for their reunion tour. The band hits the road May 28th in Vancouver, British Columbia, and they started rehearsing there a few weeks ago, before their official "coming out" at the Grammys. Singer-bassist Sting said they have their work cut out for them, and guitarist Andy Summers joked about how committed he was to the task at hand: (Sting) "We're gonna play songs we've never played before. So there's a lot, lot of interesting work ahead of us, and we're all willing to do it, and it's --" (Summers) "Hmmmmm." (Sting) "Aren't you?" (Summers) "Hmmmmm."

On a more serious note, Summers told the New York Times that he's confident the band can get back their musical chops. He said, "We were the greatest rock band in the world, and that's the way we want to be. And we still have enough ego to think that we can come back, probably just like all bands, and blow every other band out of the water."

But drummer Stewart Copeland knows they still have a lot of work to do to get where they need to be. He said, "Right now, we're not incredible. We started out like a high school band last week. We got to be like a college band. Yesterday, we started to sound like a bar band. Today, we sound like, 'OK, we could earn a living like this.' But we are not yet playing like we deserve to play in a stadium. We'll get there, now that we're on the right track."
