White Stripes close to a deal?
The White Stripes are reportedly close to signing a one-album deal with Warner Bros. Records, according to Earvolution. There's no official confirmation, but it's rumored that the Detroit duo could land an advance of three to four million dollars for their sixth studio effort. It is also unclear whether the deal would include frontman Jack White's other band, the Raconteurs. Both acts became free agents last month when their previous company, V2 Records, shut its doors.
It was first reported by Hits Daily Double that the Stripes were looking for a one-album deal. Insiders suggested that labels may be wary of signing the Stripes to a one-off when most traditional contracts lock up an act for anywhere from three to seven records.
Interscope Records was also said to be one of the companies likely to land the Stripes.
The last White Stripes album, 2005's Get Behind Me Satan, sold 850,000 copies, while last year's Raconteurs debut, Broken Boy Soldiers, moved approximately half that amount.
