30 Seconds To Mars scores first No1 single

The latest 30 Seconds To Mars single, "From Yesterday," hit the top of the Modern Rock radio chart this week, the first time the band has reached that summit in its career. The song's 14-minute video was the first American clip shot in the People's Republic of China and was recently voted the "greatest epic video of all time" on Yahoo! Music Australia. Singer Jared Leto told us that the track lent itself to such a spectacular visual treatment: "I think there's a certain amount of lyricism in the song and a surreal quality that lended itself to a story of fantasy. Very metaphorical song. The point of view that it's written from as well, I think, lended itself to this kind of story to be able to be told. And we wanted to do something different, you know. All of us in the band are looking to challenge ourselves."

"From Yesterday" comes off 30 Seconds To Mars' sophomore album, A Beautiful Lie, which has sold over one million copies.

A previous single from the album, "The Kill," spent 32 weeks on the Modern Rock airplay chart, the longest stint in the chart's history.

Leto directed the video for "From Yesterday" under the name Bartholomew Cubbins.

30 Seconds To Mars is currently headlining the Taste of Chaos tour with the Used and plays Thursday night (March 29th) in Kitchener, Ontario. Following the end of this trek on April 6th, 30 Seconds To Mars will head overseas to the U.K., Europe and Australia.

Bassist Matt Wachter recently left the group after five years.
