Allman Brothers Band kicks off "March Madness" residency
The Allman Brothers Band kick off their "March Madness" run of shows in New York City tonight (Thursday, March 22nd). The group has taken up residency at the Beacon Theatre every spring since 1996, and they'll play 13 shows between now and April 7th. Singer-guitarist Warren Haynes told us that the Beacon run is very special to the group: "The New York crowd's just over the top, you know? They are so into the Allman Brothers past and present that it's just a pleasure to play in that place. Everybody just loves playing in New York, and playing to the Beacon audience. There's this energy that's hard to explain."
Allmans drummer Butch Trucks had hoped to have his Moogis online music service up and running by now, but he's run into some snags. The plan was to shoot every night of this year's run so that subscribers could watch them live over the Internet, and then to archive the shows to allow people to revisit them at will.
