Allman Brothers Band welcomes Asbury Jukes
The Allman Brothers Band welcomed some old friends to the stage on Monday (March 26th) during their "March Madness" run in New York City. Joining the Allmans at the Beacon Theatre were Southside Johnny and members of the Asbury Jukes horn section. According to jambands.com, the horns did their thing in the first set on songs including versions of the Band's "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and blues legend Big Bill Broonzy's "Key To The Highway," and they returned in the second set to help out on covers of Otis Redding's "I've Got Dreams To Remember" and Van Morrison's "And It Stoned Me." Johnny also added harmonica to "Key To The Highway."
The Asbury Jukes horns have jammed with the Allmans at the Beacon every year since 2004, but this might have been the first time Southside Johnny also took the stage. There is no record of a prior Allmans-Johnny collaboration in the database at the official allmanbrothersband.com website.
The Allman Brothers continue their residency at the Beacon with another show on Thursday, March 29th.
