Andy Barker, P.I. and Raines new to NBC tonight
Two new shows starring familiar faces premiere on NBC tonight -- Andy Barker, P.I. and Raines.
Andy Barker, P.I. stars former Conan O'Brien sidekick Andy Richter as a C.P.A. who accidentally becomes a private detective when he sets up shop in a P.I.'s old office. Raines' title character, on the other hand, is an actual police detective who solves crimes with the help of his vivid imagination. Jeff Goldblum stars.
Andy Barker, P.I. debuts at 8:30 on NBC. In the premiere episode, Andy is hired to solve a case involving a missing husband and the Russian mafia. Andy Richter said his character's accounting skills come in handy in the episode: "In the pilot episode, I kind of use my accountant skills to investigate tax returns and figure some things out. You know, he approaches it from a very kind of accountant problem solving, how would you do this kind of way. And he gets some help along the way by the old detective that used to rent the office."
The Raines debut follows Andy Barker on the "peacock" network at 10. In its series opener, Detective Raines uncovers a murder victim's unwholesome past and mysterious relationship with a wealthy man. Jeff Goldblum said Raines solves cases with the help of his vivid and perhaps crazed imagination: "I imagine that I can talk to the victim and with that imagined conversation, you know, I can glean things and start to solve it. But now I'm having hallucinations. I hear their voices. It's not paranormal, it's not that they're appearing from the other side, it's just in my imagination and I see them too. I have hallucinations where they appear to me unexpectedly."
