Antonella Barba causing Americal Idol drama
New Jersey native Antonella Barba has set off backstage drama at American Idol. Sources say a few of the religious female contestants are giving the brunette the cold shoulder because they disapprove of the racy shots of her that have made the rounds of the Internet. TMZ reports that things are "downright chilly" behind the scenes and that Barba's detractors hope she gets voted off the show this week.
Rosie O'Donnell isn't happy with the Barba situation either. The outspoken View host said yesterday (March 6th) that it was unfair to keep the tone-challenged Barba on when producers disqualified Frenchie Davis for posing topless on an adult website years before she was a contestant in 2003: (Rosie O'Donnell) "I mean, if one girl's nude on the Internet, she gets kicked off the show and she's, you know, humiliated and disgraced and like limps away with her tail between her legs and the other girl is still on." (Woman) "They can't say no, by the way." (O'Donnell) "Technical problem." (Woman) "They keep her on. You notice, they keep... (Elisabeth Hasselbeck) "Because she looks good." (Woman) "Because she's cute."
O'Donnell said the main difference between the two women was that Barba is cute, thin, and white, and Davis is large and black: (Rosie O'Donnell) "I think it's racist. I really do. I think it's because she's black." (Woman) "You do?" (Elisabeth Hasselbeck) "Is it because Antonella, she's so just kind of... (Woman) "Hot?" (Hasselbeck) "Yeah, she's hot." (O'Donnell) "Well then it's weightist too. It's weightist and racist furry wabbit. Tricks are for kids."
Fox hasn't commented on keeping Barba on Idol. As far as Davis is concerned, the network said, "Fox and the producers of American Idol have no desire to revisit history and sully the reputation of Ms. Davis. We have never discussed the specifics of why Ms. Davis was eliminated, nor will we now."
