Armani outfitting Russell Crowe rugby team
Italian designer Giorgio Armani has created a new look for Russell Crowe's Australian rugby team. The South Sydney Rabbitohs will now travel to matches in tailor-made suits designed to "pick up on the team's rich history." Armani unveiled the new duds Tuesday (March 6th) and said that he was happy to help his friend Crowe out, "Russell Crowe does not call often and when he does, it is usually about something very important."
As part owner of the Rabbitohs, Crowe has tried to upgrade the team's image. He dissolved its cheerleading squad to make games more family friendly, and believes that the new suits will give the team confidence. Crowe said, "We hope that 2007 will see the Rabbitohs return to their glory days and as a starting point there can be no better way to arrive for matches than standing tall and feeling confident because of Giorgio Armani's magic."
Armani designed Crowe's wedding attire as well as a few of his Academy Award ensembles.
The team's new look debuts at their first game of the season on March 19th.
