The Beatles' record company denies latest online rumours
The Beatles' record company has said that recent rumors that the group's music would finally be available for Internet download are untrue. BBC.com reported that shortly after Friday's (March 9th) announcement by UK download site Wippit that they would be the first to sell the group's catalogue online, the Beatles' record label EMI demanded that the announcement be withdrawn, and issued a statement denying any deal with Wippit.
Last month the Beatles' company Apple Corps. settled their longtime trademark dispute with Apple Computers, Inc., which could lead the way to the band's recently remastered catalogue to be reissued both online and on CD.
Apple Corps.' managing director Neil Aspinall went on record when announcing the settlement that he looks forward to working with Apple Computers, but also declined to say that the group's music would be sold exclusively through Apple's online iTunes store. There is still no word as to when or where the Beatles music will become available online.
