Carol Burnett sues Fox's Family Guy
Comedian Carol Burnett doesn't see anything funny about the way she was portrayed on Fox's Family Guy last year. The 73-year-old comedienne claims in a $6 million lawsuit against the program that the animated show used a slightly altered version of the theme music to her Carol Burnett Show without permission, and violated exclusive rights to her name and likeness with its unflattering take on her cleaning woman character.
Fox says the 18-second segment bit on Burnett was parody, thereby nixing any chance of her lawsuit holding up. The network said in a statement, "Family Guy, like The Carol Burnett Show, is famous for its pop culture parodies and satirical jabs at celebrities. We are surprised that Ms. Burnett, who has made a career of spoofing others on television, would go so far as to sue Family Guy for a simple bit of comedy."
In the episode, Burnett's cleaning woman character is shown mopping the floors of a porn shop.
