Chris Cornell to receive MusiCares award
Former Audioslave and Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell will be honored at the third annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert, scheduled for Friday, May 11th at the Music Box Theater in Hollywood, California. According to a press release, Cornell will receive the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award "for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund and his devotion to helping other addicts with the recovery process." All proceeds from the event will benefit the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.
The benefit will also honor independent music promoter Jeff McClusky with the MusiCares From the Heart Award for his work with the organization.
The dinner will feature performances by Cornell, Army Of Anyone, Depeche Mode singer David Gahan and others.
Metallica frontman James Hetfield was last year's recipient of the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award.
Cornell went through rehab for alcohol and painkillers in early 2002.
He will begin a solo tour on April 6th in Las Vegas to promote the June 5th release of his second solo album, Carry On.
