Daughtry regains top spot on Billboard chart
Daughtry has regained the top spot on Billboard's Top 200 album chart, landing in the Number One position for the second non-consecutive week with sales of 90,000 copies. The band, fronted by former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry, traded places with Norah Jones, whose new album was on top last week. Although he's benefited enormously from his run on American Idol, Chris Daughtry told us why he's glad he didn't win: "Had I won, I would have not been able to come out as a band, and that's all I've ever wanted to be is a successful rock band and be a part of something like that. I was never too keen on being a solo pop artist or a solo guy. If I won, that's what I would've been, and I didn't want that. So I'm glad I didn't win, simply because I was able to form a band and come out as a band and not Chris Daughtry."
His self-titled debut, released last November, has now racked up total sales of 1.8 million copies. A press release from the group's publicist said that it was the fastest-selling rock debut since the advent of SoundScan, the computerized system that tracks album sales.
The CD has been in the Top Three on the Billboard chart for nine weeks, making Daughtry the first rock act to do that since Creed in 2002.
The first single, "It's Not Over," is a massive hit at all radio formats and has sold over 800,000 copies as a download.
Daughtry plays tomorrow (Friday, March 9th) in Indianapolis and has also begun adding dates to its spring tour schedule. Confirmed new shows are:
Apr 27 - Fort Myers, FL - Radio Festival
Apr 29 - Tampa, FL - Radio Festival
May 4 - West Palm Beach, FL - Sunfest
May 11 - Wichita, KS - Wichita River Festival
