Fall Out Boy bassist wrestles with fame
Although Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump is technically the band's frontman, bassist Pete Wentz is the group's undisputed face and spokesperson, as well as its biggest celebrity. Wentz admitted to us that he's not always sure how to keep his personality from overshadowing the rest of the act: "Sometimes it gets really hard, I'll be honest. I mean, more than anything, lots of times it means, like, I won't do as much press as I used to do. And I don't, I'm careful about what I answer and where I go and what kind of press that I do. And even so, like, I still feel like it sometimes will loom over it, you know, and I don't want our band to ever be known for that, and it's like a juggling act that we're still working on."
Wentz operates a record label, Decaydance Records, and also recently started a clothing line, in addition to being mentioned in the tabloids for dating various Hollywood hotties.
Fall Out Boy has announced a contest in which the band members will mix their blood with the printing ink used for an upcoming series of 45 promotional posters. One limited edition poster will be given to a winner in each city on the 2007 Honda Civic Tour, which Fall Out Boy will headline beginning on April 18th in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Fall Out Boy will use the Honda Civic Tour to promote its latest album, Infinity On High, which has sold 583,000 copies since its release last month.
