First North American for Smashing Pumpkins revealed
The first North American live date for the re-formed Smashing Pumpkins has been announced. According to Canada.com, the reactivated group will headline the closing night of the second annual Virgin Festival, scheduled for September 8th and 9th in Toronto. The Killers, Bjork, Interpol and more than 30 other acts are also slated to appear at the event, with tickets going on sale on March 24th at 10:00 a.m. through Ticketmaster. While several European festival gigs for the Pumpkins have already been revealed, this is the first show confirmed on this side of the Atlantic.
The Smashing Pumpkins will release their first album in seven years, titled Zeitgeist, on July 7th.
Founder Billy Corgan reactivated the group last year. The Chicago-based band issued its last effort, MACHINA/The Machines of God, in 2000, after which Corgan dissolved the band.
It's unlikely that original guitarist James Iha and bassist D'Arcy Wretzky will be joining Corgan and founding drummer Jimmy Chamberlin in the new lineup, based on recent statements by the group's manager.
