Guiding Light, Ellen DeGeneres lead daytime Emmy nominations

The CBS soap opera Guiding Light and daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres racked up a load of Daytime Emmy Award nominations yesterday (March 14th). Guiding Light, the longest running daytime drama on TV, had a whopping 17 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. It'll compete against The Bold And The Beautiful, One Life To Live, and The Young And The Restless. As The World Turns had the second most soap nominations with 16.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show had 12 nominations, including Outstanding Talk Show and Outstanding Talk Show Host. DeGeneres' program has won Outstanding Talk Show three years in a row and it's up to The View, Dr. Phil, The Tyra Banks Show, and Rachael Ray to unseat it as champ.

Other nominations, and snubs, of note:

Retiring Price Is Right host Bob Barker is up for his 18th Emmy Award. The 83-year-old TV staple steps down as host in June, and said earlier this year that despite a few physical problems, he's feeling as good as ever: "I've had arthroscopic surgery of my knee, I have a torn tendon in my rotator cup, I have a tilted disc in my back but I feel great, and on I go. I eat properly and I exercise, and I really enjoy doing Price Is Right. Had I not enjoyed it so much, I probably would have retired a long time ago."

The women of The View are nominated in the Best Talk Show Host category but they're 0-for-9 going into this year's awards.

For the first time in many years, Live With Regis And Kelly was not nominated for Outstanding Talk Show, or Outstanding Talk Show Hosts for Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa.

General Hospital didn't get nominated for Outstanding Drama Series despite winning the category seven out of the past ten times.

The 34th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards takes place June 15th at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.
