Jennifer Hudson has Aretha Franklin's blessing for biopic
Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson has Aretha Franklin's blessing to play her in a biopic. The "Queen Of Soul" told reporters backstage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on Monday (March 12th) that the Chicago native was the perfect choice for the role. There's no director, studio, or cast involved with a Franklin movie yet, but with a musical based on Franklin's life hitting the stage in coming months, a film adaptation is the logical next step.
Hudson won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the stage musical-turned-feature film Dreamgirls. Backstage at the awards, she said she'd continue to act and sing: "You know, I don't ever want to have to choose between the two, and I want to be able to continue to do them both and just do them justice. I don't want to ever want to choose. So hopefully I don't have to put them first or second."
In other Hudson news, word is that she pulled a diva-like move prior to the Soul Train awards this past weekend. The New York Post reports that Hudson called to back out of the event on Friday (March 9th), but reversed her decision when she was bawled out by J Records head Clive Davis. Davis, who is overseeing Hudson's first album, told the former American Idol contestant to "get her *** out to L.A." after receiving a personal phone call of complaint from Soul Train guru Don Cornelius.
