Korn debuts at No9 with MTV Unplugged
Korn's MTV Unplugged live CD debuted at Number Nine on the Billboard 200 album chart yesterday (Wednesday, March 14th), moving 51,000 copies in its first week of release and marking the band's seventh debut in the Top 10. The band's first full-length acoustic performance was taped in New York last December and singer Jonathan Davis told us what he took away from the event: "Just the fact that we pulled it off (laughs) is gonna stand off in my mind. It was a huge undertaking. We worked 10, 12-hour days every day for a month and then even when we got to New York it even got more intense. We really wanted to do something and set the bar so high and do something that Unplugged's never seen. We were pleased with trying to outdo everybody."
Other rock debuts included the second album from indie rock sensations Arcade Fire, whose Neon Bible landed at Number Two with sales of 92,000 copies. Sevendust's sixth studio effort, Alpha, sold 42,000 to enter the chart at Number 14, while Finger Eleven's Them Vs. You Vs. Me opened at Number 31 with sales of 19,000 copies.
Overall album sales continued to slide and were down 19 percent from the same week last year. No CD cracked the 100,000 mark in sales last week.
