Korn officially confirmed for global warming concerts
Korn has been confirmed to appear at one of the seven international S.O.S. concerts scheduled for July 7th, after being initially announced as part of the event's tentative lineup. According to RollingStone.com, the band has been officially added to a bill that already includes the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Fall Out Boy and many others. Korn guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer told us why he thinks the concerts are important: "It's just to raise people's awareness about what's happening in global warming and try to do their part and whatever they can each day to reduce, you know, energy usage and gasoline usage on whatever level. I think if people are, if their awareness is raised and they're doing one or two things a day, each person, it could make a huge, huge difference."
The shows are being organized by former U.S. vice president Al Gore and will take place in London, Shanghai, Sydney, Johannesburg and three more locations in Brazil, the United States and Japan, most likely Rio, Washington D.C. and Kyoto.
Other acts that will be participating include A.F.I., Roger Waters, Snoop Dogg, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, John Mayer, the Black Eyed Peas, Lenny Kravitz, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Snow Patrol, Keane and Pharrell, with more to be announced.
The concerts will be broadcast on NBC and seven cable networks, and will be seen in 120 countries.
Organizers were recently denied a permit by the National Park Service to hold the U.S. concert on the Mall in Washington D.C., but Gore called upon Senate leaders to introduce a resolution allowing the event to take place on the west lawn of the Capitol instead. The Park Service said it denied the permit because of prior applications and other concerns, although there was speculation that the denial was politically motivated.
