Korn playing show for youth volunteers
Korn performs Friday night (March 30th) at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles for the Boost Mobile Rock Corps, a national youth volunteer movement aimed at motivating young people to get involved and help their communities. The band will play for 3,000 fans who earned free tickets to the show by doing four hours of community service through Rock Corps. Korn guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer explained how it all works: "There's different stations set up around L.A. through the month and basically you go and you register and you help the community on whatever they're working on in that particular area for four hours, and they give you a ticket to the show. So it's very helpful for the community and it's a nice way to play for those people that are working hard, to give them back something and show our appreciation for their hard work."
Munky added that the show would be a full-on electric Korn show. The band recently did an MTV Unplugged performance and CD.
The Game, Plus 44, Rise Against and Young Jeezy will also perform at the event. Other yet-to-be-announced concerts will take place in New York, Atlanta and other cities later in the year for volunteers in those areas.
Korn is currently recording its eighth studio album with a June release expected. The band will kick off the 2007 edition of the Family Values tour in mid-July in St. Louis, with Evanescence, Hellyeah, Atreyu, Trivium and Flyleaf also on board.
