Korn "unplugged" CD out today

Korn's MTV Unplugged CD arrives in stores today (Tuesday, March 6th) and documents the band's first-ever full-length acoustic performance, which was taped last December in New York City. Korn guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer told us how the band approached rearranging its songs for the "unplugged" format: "We wanted to keep the melodies, because we're proud of all the melodies and song structures, or we wouldn't have released them on the original albums. But we wanted to change it up so that it stayed fresh, and it was fun to strip it down and it added a new element that you haven't really heard from Korn before."

Korn's MTV Unplugged show premiered on the network last Friday (March 2nd). The CD includes several songs not featured on the broadcast.

The show featured guest appearances by Evanescence singer Amy Lee and the Cure, as well as a dozen classically trained backing musicians and six Japanese taiko drummers.

Ex-Sevendust axeman Clint Lowery made his debut as Korn's new touring guitarist last week on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Korn is recording its eighth studio album, tentatively due out this June. The band will headline the 2007 Family Values tour, with Evanescence confirmed to appear as well.
