Members of Killers, Snow Patrol, others selecting Shortlist Prize winner
Killers drummer Ronnie Vannucci, Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody and all of Franz Ferdinand and Panic! And The Disco will participate in the selection of the 2007 Shortlist Music Prize, according to MTV.com. The panel nominated a total of 61 artists for the prize, which honors albums that have sold less than half a million copies. Among this year's nominees are records by Wolfmother, Beck, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Strokes, the Raconteurs, Neil Young and TV On The Radio. The panel of judges is rounded out by Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, Sufjan Stevens, Reverend Moose, Toure and K.T. Tunstall.
The nominee list will be narrowed down to 10 finalists in April, from which the winner will be selected sometime this spring.
Any album that came out in 2006 and did not sell more than 500,000 copies during that calendar year was eligible.
The Shortlist Prize was launched in 2001 but went on hiatus last year after a disagreement between its founders, one of whom tried unsuccessfully to launch a new event, the New Pantheon Awards.
