Movie preview: The Hills Have Eyes 2
The cannibalistic mutants that raped and pillaged a family traveling cross-county in last year's horror remake The Hills Have Eyes are back and hungrier than ever in The Hills Have Eyes 2. This time, the nuclear testing victims set their sites on a group of National Guard soldiers patrolling a mysteriously deserted desert research camp, and more rape, torture, and murder ensues.
Producer Wes Craven describes the origins of the Hills sequel: "It just seemed like a natural thing. And it kind of sprung in part from the fact that it was a military base and we just said, 'Well what would happen if the events of last year's remake had happened?' You know, head's would roll, somebody would be given the task to get into that area and make sure nothing like that ever happens again."
Jessica Stroup on the horror movie genre: "It kind of takes you out of reality, where you know you've got your world, you've got your friends, you've got your whatever but whenever you watch these kinds of movies, it's just, it almost makes you wake up a little bit. And kind of, you know you're scared, you're. .. suspense you know, gore, blood, everything, um, it just it just, was a fun ride."
Following are clips from The Hills Have Eyes 2:
Troops arrive at deserted research outpost: (Soldier 1) "What hell are scientists doing way the hell out here?" (Soldier 2) "They used to test nuclear weapons here." (Soldier 3) "Well isn't it radioactive then?" (Soldier 2) "Not according to the army." (Soldier 4) "Where is everybody? Hello!!"
The troops hear a distress call: (Radio) "Help me!" (Flex Alexander) "That their radio? Colonel Redding, is this you? Hello, can you hear me?" (Soldier) "That wasn't the same voice as before." (Alexander) "Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. But if somebody's hurt we're gonna help them." (Soldier) "Sarge, we..." (Alexander) "I told you before, this isn't spring break."
A couple of soldiers discuss the mutants: (Soldier 1) "How many do you think there are?" (Soldier 2) "Who knows? Too many. What are you doing?" (Soldier 1) "I'm saving one for myself." (Soldier 2) "Hey, do you remember what Craig said? Dead is never better. We're gonna get out of here."
