New Red Hot Chili Peppers single was almost lost
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have issued "Hump De Bump" as the latest single from their Stadium Arcadium double CD, complete with a video directed by and featuring a cameo from Chris Rock. Chili Peppers bassist Flea said that the song itself was written over the course of a year and almost vanished in the process: "We were at rehearsal one day and I was just, like, wasn't even thinking and just started playing the bass line to that song, and then I was like, 'Okay, let's work on a song' -- I just wasn't thinking about it. Anthony (Kiedis, singer) was like, 'Oh, no, no, what's that? What's that you were just playing?' And then he took his cell phone and, you know, put it on his answering machine. But then he lost that recording and like a year later, he was like, 'What was that?' And I kind of remembered it, but then we built a whole song around it and it ended up having a nice spirit."
"Hump De Bump" follows "Dani California," "Tell Me Baby" and "Snow (Hey Oh)" as the fourth single from Stadium Arcadium, which has sold nearly two million copies since its release last May.
Anthony Kiedis was felled by a case of bronchial pneumonia last week, forcing the band to cancel two Japanese stadium shows in Osaka and Tokyo on March 22nd and 23rd. The band plans to reschedule the dates as part of a larger world tour likely to take place this fall.
The Chili Peppers' next U.S. show will be at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on April 28th in Indio, California.
