Pearl Jam reportedly headlining Lollapalooza
Pearl Jam will headline this summer's edition of the Lollapalooza festival, according to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times. The event will be staged as a "destination festival" for the third year in a row at Chicago's Grant Park on August 3rd, 4th and 5th. Organizers plan to announce the 130-band lineup and ticket information sometime later this month or early in April, and had no comment on any acts appearing at the concert. But several sources told the Sun-Times that Pearl Jam will appear as part of a larger U.S. tour for the group, which has yet to be unveiled.
Pearl Jam's appearance on the 1992 touring version of Lollapalooza helped turn the band into superstars.
The group released its latest album, a self-titled effort, in May of 2006. A new cover of the Who's "Love Reign O'er Me" will surface on the soundtrack of the upcoming Adam Sandler film, Reign Over Me.
Last year's Lollapalooza featured the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Matisyahu, Death Cab For Cutie, Queens Of The Stone Age, Panic! At The Disco and dozens of others.
Lollapalooza debuted as a festival tour in the early '90s and ground to a halt after its 1997 run. It successfully re-emerged in 2003 only to be scuttled the following year by low ticket sales, which led to the new format in 2005.
